Project One Beginning

For the first project I decided to use the pictures from Evie Hoffman, I liked the light and composition for the pictures.

cleanplate.jpg

Then I apply the information of the picture to Maya's digital camera and add the cube image to the cameras environment. Lastly I adjust the camera's position and rotation to make a digital cube placed on the origin align to the one in the photo.

Project One Continues

the next thing that I did after getting the camera right was get a basic setup of the different render layers. once I had done that I added an ai standard surface ball and rendered out the different layers. I then merged them together in nuke so I could compare it to the picture that had a Matte ball so I could better adjust the lighting on a later date.

Beginning Light and Texture Match

The main focus of today was fine tuning the light and shadow as well as the texture of the ball to closer resemble the actual picture.

Beginning Light and Texture Match

After getting the general lighting and positioning i fine tuned it and added an ambient occlusion to the shadows.

Adding Fence Shadow

the next thing that I did was create a render layer to add the fence shadow to the object to do that I took the position of the light added a camera and rendered out an image of the clean plate.

shadow_fence.jpg

The next thing that i did was put the render in Photoshop and make it a red and black image to be able to turn it into a shadow mask and then i added it to the scene as a surface shader and use projection mapping from the light camera to allow it to realistically wrap around the ball.

Editing Fence Shadow

the next thing that I did was clean up the shadow to give it cleaner edges and then add it to the nuke file composite. I also color corrected the ball and added a displacement mat to give it a painted look.

Breakdown200.png

After that I rendered out the ball object layer wit aov passes and added the fence shadow to the diffuses aov as well as add the shadow reflection at the bottom of the ball.

Rendering Final

The last thing that I did was render sequence all of the different render layers together and add them together in nuke

Project 2 Begins

For the project I have decided to use the photo set provided by Sasha Oulette

Box

Grey Ball

The next thing that I did was add match the camera angle to the box image and match the camera focal length

Camera_match.PNG

The next thing that i did was import the obj of the dragon and add an ai standard shader and add transparency. As well as add a light and match it to the lighting of the image.

Practicing Ramp Shading and Subsurfacing

today I mostly practiced how to use a ramp shader with nuke to combined two different shaders. one being a transparency shader and the other was subsurface scattering although I don't plan to use this in the final I do think that the process it self may be of some use so i have decided to show the first attempt.

Correcting The Lighting and Creating Animation

The next thing that I did after practicing texturing was correct the lighting of the scene by using the gray ball image as a reference.

Ball_test.jpg

the next thing that I did was animate the dragon so I could have a rough idea of what I wanted the animation to look like.

Compositing and Adding Caustics

The first thing that I did today was composite all of the elements together and render it out.

obj_test.jpg

The next thing that I did was add a caustic effect to the the shadow by using a mix of in and out merge layers.

Softening Shadow and Test Render

The main goal that I had today was to soften the shadow and to complete a test render so I could estimate how long the proper render would take.

Fixing Corrupted Files and Creating Fractures

The biggest thing that I did on this day was fix a corrupted file. I found when I was rendering my ground occlusion that my Object wasn't disappearing So I decided to export all of the items in my scene to a new scene and restart the render layers which fixed the problem.

The last thing that i did was add all the elements together in nukes and render them out along with a breakdown

Composite and Render Layers

Today my biggest step was working of putting together the render layers of the scene and adding the shadow layer to my nuke test composite.

Test Render

Once I had all of the render layers and a general composite put together I made a test render to make sure that the lighting held a natural look with movement.

Match Move and Second Test Render

The big thing that I worked on today was getting the 3D tracking node from nuke working. I originally had trouble with the nodes xyz orientation however after some tweaking I was able to fix it. the next step now is to fix the shadow of the secondary character to prevent her from hovering.

Fixing Shadow and Adding Occlusion

The next thing that I worked on was fixing the shadow of the first character I noticed that it looked like she was floating so I wanted to fix the shadow and animation to make her look more grounded.

after that I added an occlusion ground and object layer.

May 19 2020

Anchor 18

Adding A Ground Reflection

The next thing that i did was add a slight reflection off the ground by  using a ground reflection layer. One problem that I intend to fix is the fact that the ground plane in Maya extends past the actual ground in the video so I need to fix the shadow and reflection.

Keying Ground Reflection and Starting Final Renders

The next thing that I have done is fix the off ground reflection by using a key in nuke so that the reflection doesn't go pass the ground. After that I did some last minute adjustments to the saturation of the characters shaders and increased the quality of the render settings.
